St. Nikolai Church
The former main gothic church at "Hopfenmarkt" square was incinerated in the Great Fire of 1842. It was rebuilt as Gothic cathedral (finished 1874), again almost completely destroyed in World War II. Its remaining and restored tower now serves as an anti-war monument. The church was the tallest building in the world from 1874 to 1876.
